The Al Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner or the “Al Smith Dinner” is an annual white tie fundraiser in New York that raises funds for Catholic Charities. Every presidential election year since 1960 (except two when they weren’t invited), both Presidential candidates have attended and spoke in the tradition of comedy. For the first time since 1984, one of the candidates, Kamala Harris, declined to attend. Harris sent a pre-recorded video to much criticism.
