NewsomannouncedthemoveafterPresidentDonaldTrumpblastedthegovernor’shandlingofpreviouswildfiredisasters.Theordersuspendscertainenvironmentalregulationsthatwouldhavedelayedforestmanagementprojectsandotherwildfirepreventionmeasures.
“ThisyearhasalreadyseensomeofthemostdestructivewildfiresinCaliforniahistory,andwe’reonlyinMarch.Buildingonunprecedentedworkcuttingredtapeandmakinghistoricinvestments–we’retakingactionwithastateofemergencytofast-trackcriticalwildfireprojectsevenmore,”Newsomsaidinastatement.
“Thesearetheforestmanagementprojectsweneedtoprotectourcommunitiesmostvulnerabletowildfire,andwe’regoingtogetthemdone,”headded.
