House passes GOP funding bill for DHS after Republicans reject Senate-passed measure

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., called a vote on a temporary spending measure rather than the Senate-passed bill that drew opposition from House conservatives.

House Republican Conference chair Lisa McClain, R-Mich., said this evening that she would have “appreciated” a “heads up” from Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., before the Senate passed its DHS funding bill early this morning.
Asked if she felt blindsided by the Senate’s early morning action, McClain told NBC News, “Yes.” She said she found out at 5:30 a.m. when she got a call from one of her aides. “Which was kind of unfortunate, right?” she said.
McClain criticized the Senate for leaving town before a funding bill reached the president’s desk.
“I would suggest that the Senate does come back and at least take a vote. That is what they were elected to do. So they’re going to stay out on recess for two weeks and not come back while people don’t get paid? That’s pretty sad,” she said.
